Indyjska mistrzyni sitaru wystąpi 22 października w Filharmonii Narodowej.

Anoushka Shankar po raz pierwszy wystąpi wraz ze swoim zespołem w Warszawie!  Jedna z czołowych postaci w świecie muzycznym i najbardziej znana żyjąca instrumentalistka grająca na sitarze, bez wątpienia najsłynniejsza dziś artystka Indii, córka legendarnego muzyka i przyjaciela Beatlesów – Raviego Shankara, siostra Nory Jones.

 Wydarzenie jest częścią światowej trasy koncertowej Anoushki Shankar promującej najnowszy album „Land Of Gold”. Jest to już czwarta z kolei płyta Anoushki wydana przez słynną, klasyczną wytwórnię Deutsche Grammphon. Jest reakcją na niesprawiedliwości, a także cierpienia spotykające uchodźców oraz ofiary wojen. Premiera miała miejsce w kwietniu 2016 roku.

 Artystka jest głęboko zakorzeniona w indyjskiej muzyce klasycznej, od 9 roku życia zaczęła edukację pod kierunkiem jej ojca i guru, Raviego Shankara. W wieku 20 lat zaczęła rozwijać swój talent w kierunku komponowania. Lubi eksperymentować z różnymi gatunkami. W jej muzyce usłyszymy muzykę indyjską, flamenco, jazz, a także muzykę elektroniczną i zachodnią muzykę klasyczną.

Odwiedziła wszystkie najsłynniejsze sceny świata, w tym kilkunastokrotnie nowojorską Carnegie Hall. Wykształcona klasycznie, sięgała po orkiestrowe dzieła swojego ojca pod batutą Zubina Mehty. Jednocześnie jednak flirtowała z elektroniką u boku Nitina Sawhneya. Z producentem i multiinstrumentalistą Karsh’em Kale nagrała album „Breathing Under Water”, łączący wiele stylów. Gościnnie pojawił się na nim Sting (Anoushka wystąpiła wcześniej na jego płycie „Sacred Love”) a także siostra artystki, Norah Jones.

 Anoushka Shankar grała nie tylko z własnym ojcem – mistrzem gry na sitarze, ale także z takimi artystami, jak: Philip Glass, Sting i Norah Jones. Artystka gra na sitarze muzykę etniczną, inspirowaną tradycją muzyczną północnych Indii. W jej muzyce słychać jednak wiele innych wpływów.

 Wśród wielu wyróżnień, została ona trzykrotnie nominowana do nagrody Grammy, a także do Songlines jako najlepszy artysta. W 2011 roku, słynna klasyczna wytwórnia niemiecka, Deutsche Grammophon podpisała z nią kontrakt na wydanie szóstego albumu „Traveller”, w którym łączyła eksplorację indyjskiej muzyki klasycznej wraz z rytmami hiszpańskiego flamenco. Album „Traces of You”, nagrany wspólnie z Norą Jones jest hołdem dla ich ojca, Raviego.

Sitar player and composer Anoushka Shankar for the first time will perform with her band in Warsaw during her „Land of Gold” world tour. She is one of the leading figures in World Music today. And deeply rooted in the Indian classical music she studied exclusively from the age of nine under her father and guru, the legendary Ravi Shankar. In her twenties, after establishing herself as one of the foremost classical sitarists on the world’s stage, she began thriving as a composer, exploring fertile ground in the crossover between Indian music and a variety of genres including flamenco, jazz, electronica and Western classical music. Among various accolades she has been thrice nominated for a Grammy® Award and was the youngest, and first female, recipient of a House of Commons Shield from the British House of Parliament in 1999. As a classical sitarist Anoushka Shankar debuted professionally at the age of thirteen and has performed in prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and Carnegie Hall (over a dozen times), and championed her father’s orchestral works with the world’s leading orchestras under conductors such as Zubin Mehta. Before turning twenty she made three classical sitar records for Angel/EMI under the guidance of her father, and received her first Grammy® nomination, thereby becoming the first Indian female and youngest-ever nominee in the World Music category.

 In 2011 Anoushka signed to the prestigious classical music label Deutsche Grammophon, and released her sixth album, Traveller, a critically hailed exploration of Indian classical music and Spanish flamenco. This was the third in a series of breakthrough experimental albums from Anoushka, following 2005’s self-produced and Grammy®-nominated Rise, and 2007’s Breathing Under Water, a collaborative venture between Anoushka and multi-instrumentalist and composer Karsh Kale. In support of Traveller, Anoushka created an ensemble of flamenco and Indian musicians and went on tour, doing over ninety concerts presenting this new music across multiple continents. Traveller earned her a third Grammy® nomination and also a Songlines Best Artist award. Additional information: Norah Jones is Anoushka’s sister.
