Tegoroczne nagrody Amerykańskiej Akademii zostaną wręczone 12 lutego podczas uroczystej gali w Los Angeles. Będzie to już 59. rozdanie. Nominacje ogłoszono w 84 różnych kategoriach, w tej liczbie pięć na polu jazzu.

Best Improvised Jazz Solo:  Joey Alexander – Countdown (na płycie „Countdown” ), Ravi Coltrane –  In Movement (Jack DeJohnette, Ravi Coltrane & Matthew Garrison „In Movement” ), Fred Hersch – We See („Sunday Night At The Vanguard”), Brad Mehldau – I Concentrate On You („Blues And Ballads” ), John Scofield – I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry („Country For Old Men”);

Best Jazz Vocal Album: René Marie „Sound Of Red”, Branford Marsalis Quartet With Special Guest Kurt Elling „Upward Spiral”, Gregory Porter „Take Me To The Alley”, Catherine Russell „Harlem On My Mind”, The Tierney Sutton Band  „he Sting Variations”;

Best Jazz Instrumental Album:  Kenny Barron Trio „Book Of Intuition”, Peter Erskine „Dr. Um”, The Fred Hersch Trio „Sunday Night At The Vanguard”, Joshua Redman & Brad Mehldau „Nearness”, John Scofield „Country For Old Men”;

Artyści jazzowi zostali również nominowani w kilku innych, ogólnych kategoriach, jak Best Instrumental Composition, Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella; Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals.

„Miles Ahead” otrzymał nominację w kategorii Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for Visual Media.
